Mentioned in the Bible 4 times (twice in Amos). Both 2 Kgs 16:9 and Am 1:5 speak of Kir as the place of exile for the Arameans, while Am 9:7 associates it with Egypt and Caphtor as the place from which Adonai led them in an "exodus". The remaining reference, in Is 22:6 links Kir with Elam as source of soldiers for the Assyrian army.
This combination of references makes it difficult to identify Kir. Is it near Elam or the Mediterranean coast? Other evidence does not help, see e.g. "Kir" in ABD.
See comments on 1:5.
