Ekron was a Philistine city in the Shephelah. A bas-relief at Khorsabad pictures Ekron besieged in 712bce by Sargon II, royal annals also describe its capture by Sennacherib in 701. In the 7th C Ekron is described as an Assyrian vassal state. The squarish Tel Miqne, extensively excavated by a joint Israeli-US team, has been identified as Ekron. The nearby museum today includes this reconstruction of an Iron Age Philistine home, with cooking area and potter's wheel.
