תְּקוֹעַ teqo`ah
"Tekoa" features in the Bible as a place:
- from which Joab sought a wise woman (2 Sam 14:2)
- where a warning is sounded in time of invasion (Jer 6:1)
- one of the "cities" built by Rehoboam for Judah's defense (2 Chron
11:6)
- "the wilderness of Tekoa" is the site of Jehoshaphat's victory
over Eastern neighbours (2 Chron 20:20)
- Amos is described (1:1)
as "among the shepherds from Tekoa".
This last reference may mean that Tekoa near Bethlehem was Amos' home town.
