סְדֹם sedom  "Sodom". The story of the destruction of the evil cities of Sodom and Gomorrah is told in Genesis, they, and especially Sodom became synonymous with the destruction which falls on evil communities (e.g. Lam 4:6). They appear together in Amos 4:11 as they often do elsewhere (e.g. Gen 18:20; 19:24, 28; Is 1:9).
