פָּנֶה actually only found
as the plural פָּנִים
panim or construct plural
פְּנֵי "face" often in expressions
like:
- לִפְנֵי liphne "in front of, before"
Am 1:1 illustrates how little this expression has to do with
"faces"! Also at: Am 2:9; 9:4;
- עַל־פְּנֵי `al-pene "upon, over"
as in Am 5:8; 9:6;
8 (cf. עַל `al);
- מִפְּנֵי mipene "from" as
in Am 5:19.
