גרשׁ grsh qal "throw out"; niphal "be driven away"; piel "drive away" only the niphal is used in Amos (at 8:8) where it describes the Nile, and so is a strange choice of word. The term it parallels in 8:8 is also problematic, so it is usually understood with a meaning similar to the parallel verse in 9:5 and so rendered "be tossed about".
