אֶבְיוֹן 'ebyon refers to the needy, and more broadly to those of the lowest social status. In Amos (2:6; 4:1; 5:12; 8:4,6) it is over ten times more frequent per thousand words than in other prophetic books. Only Job, Psalms and Proverbs approach Amos' use of 'ebyon.
