אֲדָמָה
'adamah "earth, soil or land". In Amos:
- 3:5 simply as "ground"
- 3:2 = "earth"
in the sense of "everywhere" (so used instead of
'erets
to avoid notion that only families of the promised "land" were involved)
cf. 9:8 "face of the
earth"
- 5:2; 7:11;
9:15 the sense is "land"
(not as a political unit 'erets but as the land itself)
- 7:17 the three uses combine
these senses: land measured, foreign land, far from home.
