The religious observance of a new moon festival is often linked with observance of the seventh day (Sabbath) as in Amos 8:5. It is not clear what form the observance took, though Ezekiel mentions sacrifice (Ez 45:17). It would appear that like the Sabbath it was a day of rest from (at least) buying and selling.
