Sometimes it is difficult to make sense of the Hebrew text. There are places where the process of copying may have introduced small errors in to the text. At times scholars decide to change the letters so that they make better sense.
There are two very different kinds of emendation:
Either kind of emendation ought to be mentioned in the footnotes to your Bible, and will be mentioned in the detailed notes provided here to the text of Amos.
